About T.J. Reddick Bar Association, Inc.

Since its inception on November 12, 1982, the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, Inc. has been at the forefront of advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession. Founded by a group of esteemed attorneys including W. George Allen, Alcee L. Hastings, Benjamin F. Lampkin, Jr., Henry Latimer, Raleigh R. Rawls, James Brown, William Hutchinson, Jr., Judge Zebedee Wright, and the distinguished Thomas J. Reddick, Jr., the association was established in response to the glaring disparities faced by Black legal professionals in Broward County, Florida. Named in honor of Thomas J. Reddick, Jr., the first Black attorney to open an office and practice law in Broward County, the association's legacy is deeply rooted in its commitment to breaking barriers and fostering equal opportunities for all.

At the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, we are dedicated to making a lasting and positive impact on the community through a variety of initiatives and programs. Our commitment extends beyond the legal profession to address broader social issues and promote equity, justice, and opportunity for all.

Black History Month Exhibit

In celebration of Black History Month, T.J. Reddick Bar Association organizes a special exhibit at the Old Dillard Museum to honor the legacy of W. George Allen and his family. The exhibit showcases the contributions of African American leaders in law, politics, and civil rights, highlighting their achievements and enduring impact on our community.

Back-to-School Giveaway:

As part of our commitment to education and youth empowerment, the association hosts an annual back-to-school giveaway event to provide students with essential supplies and resources for the upcoming school year. Through partnerships with local businesses and organizations, we distribute backpacks, school supplies, and educational materials to students in need, helping to ensure they start the school year on the right foot.

Adopt-a-Family Event:

During the holiday season, the T.J. Reddick Bar Association co-sponsors an Adopt-a-Family event to support families facing economic hardship. Through generous donations from our members and community partners, we provide gifts, food, and other necessities to families in need, spreading joy and making a meaningful difference in their lives during a challenging time.

Speaker & Panel Symposium:

The T.J. Reddick Bar Association organizes educational symposiums featuring expert speaker and engaging panels on a wide range of legal and social justice topics. In 2024, the Association co-sponsored a two-day advanced litigation symposium that provided attendees with over 8 hours of CLE credit and engaging panel discission tailored for criminal and civil litigators of all levels.

Scholarship Program:

For over 30 years, the T.J. Reddick Bar Association has been committed to supporting the next generation of legal professionals through our scholarship program. We award scholarships to deserving law students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to serving their community. We have given tens of thousands of scholarships to heltp alleviate financial barriers and empower students to pursue their educational and career goals, ensuring a diverse and inclusive future for the legal profession.

Advocacy and Outreach

In addition to our signature programs and events, the T.J. Reddick Bar Association remains actively engaged in advocacy and outreach efforts to address systemic inequalities and promote social change. Whether advocating for policy reforms, supporting grassroots initiatives, or partnering with community organizations, we are dedicated to advancing justice and equality for all members of our community.

In 2024, the Association  partnered with Broward College’s Social Behavioral Sciences & Human Services department to hold a Domestic Violence Awareness Panel and Toiletry Drive to benefit Women in Distress. Through its collaborative efforts, the Association collected over $3000 worth of toiletries, making a tangible impact on the lives of those in need.

Keynote Speaker

Sue-Ann Robinson

Sue-Ann Robinson is an award winning renowned trial attorney, commentator and TV featured guest legal analyst for Court TV. She has become known for her in depth and common sense analysis on criminal justice reform, police misconduct and high profile cases. Sue-Ann’s breadth of experience and expertise has earned her acclaim across all media platforms. Her legal commentary has been featured on Revolt TV, VH1, Fox News, NBC, Black News Channel, The Young Turks, and Law and Crime.

 

Sue-Ann is a dynamic speaker known for stimulating thought and inspiring action at corporate and academic events. She has moderated and served as keynote speaker for Universities, Municipalities, Community Organizations, and Corporations. Her Authentic and approachable style engages and motivates audience members to do what they can from wherever they may be to push forward the cause of social justice which she calls; “the most important work of our time.”

 

As a former prosecutor, Sue-Ann offered her unique matter of fact perspective as a legal expert on Season 1 and 2 of STARZ’s investigative docuseries Wrong Man. On the team, Robinson  re-investigated cases in which incarcerated defendants insisted on their innocence. Notably two defendants from the series were released from prison based on new evidence exposed by the series investigation.

 

Sue-Ann began her legal career at 23 years old as a Prosecutor in the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County, Florida. Attorney Robinson served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors Young Lawyers Division for seven years and is a former President  of the T.J Reddick Bar Association . Since leaving government service she has been in private practice representing individuals and businesses in high stakes litigation in both Federal and State Court. In tandem with a vigorous trial practice . She has served as a Certified County Court Mediator and as a Traffic Hearing Officer in Broward County. Sue-Ann was recently appointed  Chair of Mass Tort and Multi district Litigation  for Ben Crump Law. 

 

Sue-Ann covered the Derek Chauvin trial daily for Fox Soul. She anchored a nationally syndicated morning show based in Miami Florida. Among her many accolades she has been recognized by Superlawyers Magazine , received a certificate of special recognition from the United States Congress, awarded as a  “Changemaker” for her work in civil rights by the Thurgood Marshall Foundation ,and  listed as one  of the “top ten black women lawyers you should know” in Black Enterprise Magazine. .

 

A native of South Florida, Robinson is the mother of two girls and lives in Broward County.She received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), and her law degree from the Florida International University College of Law.

Celebrating individuals, both members and non-members of the association, who have made significant contributions to the community through pro bono activities, youth outreach programs, and efforts to promote access to justice and education.

Acknowledging individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to the professional development of young lawyers and aspiring legal professionals, this award recognizes efforts to support career advancement and mentorship within the legal community.

Exceptional Service to the Profession

The Exceptional Service to the Profession Award is to recognize a T.J. Reddick Bar Association member that has been active in The Florida Bar, Broward Bar Association, or other voluntary bar associations. The recipient of the award should demonstrate the willingness and efforts to affect the profession through innovative ideas, constant involvement, and a commitment to the enhancement of the practice of law.

Scholarships

Judge Mary Rudd Robinson Scholarship:

Named in honor of Broward County's first African American female judge, this scholarship supports rising law students of African American descent who have maintained strong academic performance and exemplify dedication to their legal studies.

Raleigh R. Rawls Scholarship (High School):

Supporting African American high school seniors pursuing a career in law, this scholarship recognizes resilience and determination in overcoming challenges during their academic journey.

Henry Latimer Scholarship:

Named in honor of Broward County's first African American circuit court judge, this scholarship provides support to law students who have overcome obstacles and demonstrated academic excellence.

Charlie B. Levy Scholarship (High School):

Established in honor of the late Charlie B. Levy, Esq., this scholarship assists high school seniors planning to attend Historically Black Colleges or Universities, encouraging academic achievement and leadership within the community.
